2 Islanders crowned 'Beef Warriors' in Burger Love

Alex Douglas enjoys one last hit of Burger Love for 2012. (CBC)Two Islanders have found love — Burger Love, that is.
Alex Douglas and Matt Doyle, both from Charlottetown, were the first Islanders to eat all 22 of the burgers in the second annual PEI Burger Love Contest.
Crowned "Beef Warriors" by organizers, they did it in eight days.
“There were a lot of good ones,” Douglas said. “We got some gift cards for a few of the restaurants, they made us a trophy that had the Burger Love logo and our names on them.”
“They also got us 20 pounds of P.E.I. beef.”
Burger Love showcases the beef industry on P.E.I.
In 2011, 14 restaurants served up 5,517 burgers. This year, eight new restaurants were added.
The benefits weren't just to the Island beef industry, because many restaurants saw extra foot traffic.
Last year, Islanders cast 1,900 online votes for their favourite burger. This year, that number has risen to more than 4,000 so far.
Islanders’ choice for favourite burger will be announced May 9.
