Six musicians in the orchestra are now being notified they won't be needed this year, said the CEO of the Confederation Centre.
The move is in response to changes in Anne of Green Gables-The Musical, Jessie Inman said.
It will also save the centre money.
"Each year we decide on how many musicians we need and those people have been sent email notices already that we wish to contract for this year," Inman said.
"However there are many long-standing members that will not be continuing with us and we have opted for a personal courtesy call to each of those people. And those calls and conversations are in process right now with our musical director Don Fraser."
Meanwhile Inman said things are gearing up for the new season.
She said ticket sales for the Charlottetown Festival productions of Anne and Ring of Fire are at least on par or even ahead of last year's productions.
