Charlottetown MP Sean Casey wants to see if the Harper government is prepared to live by its online surveillance bill.
Under Bill C-30, internet service providers would be required to install surveillance technology and software to enable monitoring of phone and internet traffic. The bill says that government agents may enter an ISP at any time, without a warrant, and demand to see all data anywhere on the network, and to make copies.
Liberal MP, Sean Casey, asked Parliament to provide web surfing histories from the computers and BlackBerrys of the minister of public safety and his staff.
"The order paper question is asking for the minister and everyone within the minister's office to provide us with a complete list of every single website that they have accessed during the two week period from Feb. 1 to 14," he said.
"I want to send the minister a message; if he thinks it's ok for the government to effectively snoop on Canadians, let's just see how he feels about it for himself."
The government has to respond to written questions within 45 days.
