The committee organizing fundraising for a new home in Tignish, P.E.I., for Bobbi-Jo LeClair, who was seriously injured in a car crash, says it's going well but the effort needs a little more co-ordination.

The 17-year-old LeClair has been in hospital in for more than a year. Her family wants to bring her home, but she uses a wheelchair, and the older home the family currently lives in is not wheelchair accessible.

Tignish Special Needs Housing 2011 is trying to co-ordinate more than 25 different fundraising efforts for LeClair, and is finding it to be a challenge.

"Young class in school there the other day — Grade 7 class — they raised over $300, impromptu," said group chair Roy Hogan.

"We didn't know they were doing it, and it's great, because those kids want to be on board too."

Hogan said while the effort is appreciated, the committee would like to have a better grasp of all of the initiatives that are underway.

"Just so we can find out what is going on, because things were happening that we didn't know was happening," he said. "We tried to put a cap on the fundraising for now, until we knew where we're at."

LeClair's mother, Donna, said she never imagined Islanders would be so supportive.

"It's unbelievable," she said. "The people that are coming forward; the donations for this and helping out with this. And when they start the house everybody's talking they're going to be there to donate their time. It's just, it's crazy."

LeClair is hoping to have her daughter home from a New Brunswick hospital by May or June.

Hogan believes by that time the committee will have the $150,000 they need to build her new home.
