RCMP on P.E.I. now say a scam they alerted the public to Thursday wasn't a scam at all.

The RCMP had been promoting one of its benefit hockey games for this weekend, while Islanders were also getting calls from another legitimate fundraising effort — connected to a different police benefit hockey game on the Island.

RCMP say they recieved dozens of calls from concerned residents, thinking the phone fundraiser was a scam — but it wasn't.

Both the RCMP and the Charlottetown Police Association hockey fundraising efforts are legitimate, the RCMP confirmed.

Funds raised from the RCMP benefit hockey game will go to the Children's Wish Foundation. Money from the Charlottetown Police Association hockey fundraiser will go to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation.

The Charlottetown Police Association charity game goes March 15 at the Charlottetown Civic Centre.
