Fire destroys Clyde River house

A house was destroyed by fire on the Linwood Road in Clyde River, just west of Charlottetown, early Wednesday morning.
Neighbour Arthur Hickox told CBC News five or six fire trucks arrived on site about 5 a.m. Firefighters worked for hours putting out hot spots.
Hickox said there was no one living in the house. He said a couple bought it recently and were fixing it up, but there's not much left now.
"The house is, well, basically it's just a shell left standing. The front part of the house facing the road is pretty much gone. The back part is still standing, but everything inside, it looks like everything inside pretty much is gone," he said.
"There's no way anybody is going to be able to repair it. I would say it would have to be tore down."
Hickox said if there had been stronger winds his service centre, which is right next door, could have been in jeopardy. He was woken up at 4:45 a.m. when the man delivering his newspaper knocked on the door asking him if anyone lived in the house. The gentleman had called the fire department, but he wanted to make sure everyone was safe.
