The owners of Famous Peppers Pizza in Charlottetown are hoping to reopen as early as the end of the week after a fire at their Kent Street building on Friday.

The fire began in an apartment two floors above the restaurant. Charlottetown Fire officials continue to investigate the cause.

Eleven people lived in the apartments on the second and third floors. The Red Cross has helped seven tenants with emergency lodging and food. The others have been staying with family or friends.

Famous Peppers co-owner Dan Mitchell was at his restaurant Monday speaking with insurance adjusters.

"The water damage from the third floor is what we are dealing with. The water came through the second floor and then through my ceiling," said Mitchell.

"It damaged the drop ceiling in the restaurant, so that will have to be resolved from a health and safety point of view. And then it went into the click flooring that we have, and it seeped through below that. But all of our ovens, fridges and other equipment, there is no damage.

If everything goes well, Mitchell said, the restaurant could be open by this Friday.
