Prince Edward Island was recognized not just for its shellfish, but the ability to go out and see where it is produced. (CP)Zagat was looking for lesser known food destinations to feature, when it listed P.E.I. in the top eight places in the world to go according to one of its blog writers.
The listing has created quite a bit of buzz over the last couple of days.
Zagat blog writer Lauren Bloomberg said everyone knows Tuscany and Montreal as good places to eat. She was looking for more off-the-beaten-track locations.
"Everyone wants to find the newest, hottest thing and be the first person there, and I think this list is a great example of that. It's places that aren't totally out there," Bloomberg said.
"They're a little quirky, a little unique. That you can go and have a great time, a great experience and then come home and say 'Guess where I went? It was amazing and I did this, this and this,'" said Bloomberg."
The Prince Edward Island Potato Board is thrilled P.E.I. has joined the ranks of other amazing culinary capitals, said Greg Donald, head of the board in a news release.
Donald said having Zagat appreciate the Island's local fare is a huge honour. The New York City group's restaurant guides are considered food bibles to some.
Bloomberg said friends of hers highlighted P.E.I. as a good place to eat — especially for seafood.
Cornwall, England and Louisville, Kentucky also made the list.
The Island was the only Canadian destination listed.
