P.E.I.'s Liberal government has come through on a promise it made to provide a bursary for students in their last year at UPEI, says the student union president.
There was some miscommunication on the student bursary, says UPEI Student Union president Rob Livingstone. (CBC)The Liberals promised the $2,000 bursary for students in their graduating year during September's election campaign. UPEI Student Union president Rob Livingstone told CBC News Monday money went into accounts of students a little more than a week ago.
Livingstone said it came as a relief because students were worried they would never see the money. The student union issued a news release earlier this month wondering when, or if, the money would arrive.
"It was just kind of a miscommunication on their part I would say on when exactly it was coming. The money is being credited to students' accounts now and fourth years or graduating students are very happy," said Livingstone.
"It's kind of clear now that it wasn't as undecided on their part as we had maybe suspected."
Government officials said they needed to work out all the logistics of who was eligible for the money before crediting student accounts.
