A P.E.I. driver who struck and injured someone on the UPEI campus and drove away was sentenced Friday to four months in jail.
Zachary Richard Evans-Renaud pleaded guilty to the March hit and run in December. The victim suffered cuts and bruises to his back, legs and hips, and his head was badly cut.
Provincial court Judge John Douglas accepted that Evans-Renaud expressed sincere remorse, pleaded guilty, is of good character and unlikely to reoffend. But he also noted Evans-Renaud tried to avoid detection and responsibility by leaving the scene.
Douglas said a custodial sentence is needed for denunciation of the crime.
Renaud-Evans was also ordered to provide a DNA sample.
