The P.E.I. Right to Life Association believes there is a lot of erroneous information being put out in the recent debate over abortion, and is launching a year-long campaign to deliver its own point of view.

The association will hold a news conference Tuesday afternoon to outline its plans.

Association member Ann Marie Tomlins said the campaign is in response to a new lobby from the P.E.I. Reproductive Rights Organization to have abortions made more easily available to Island women.

"We feel that we have to take steps to ensure that every citizen on Prince Edward Island becomes aware of the true facts on abortion," said Tomlins.

"This was something we were doing anyway through a more gradual process, but the thing is that we've been forced to do this more aggressively."

The P.E.I. Right to Life Association's campaign will include a media campaign and monthly events with some public speakers.

While the P.E.I. government will pay for abortions through the health system, women must travel to the mainland to have them performed. No legal abortions have been performed on P.E.I. since 1982.
