Man pleads guilty in UPEI hit and run

Adam Molyneaux of Charlottetown was injured in a hit and run accident. ((CBC))A 19-year-old Charlottetown man pleaded guilty Monday to failing to remain at the scene of an accident at the University of Prince Edward Island last spring.
Zachary Richard Evans-Renaud was charged after a hit and run at UPEI on March 13.
Adam Molyneaux, of Charlottetown, was walking along the UPEI Campus Road around 2 a.m. after being at the UPEI pub, The Wave, when a vehicle hit him from behind and fled the scene.
Molyneaux suffered cuts and bruises to his back, legs and hips. His head was badly cut.
He was found minutes later by his father who was coming to pick him up. Molyneaux spent the night in hospital, and was unable to attend classes for several days. He was unable to identify the driver of the car that struck him.
In an agreed statement of facts, Evans-Renaud said he didn't realize he had hit someone until after he had left the scene. He said he had only drunk one beer at The Wave before being thrown out of the bar for fighting.
The next day, police received a tip that Evans-Renaud was involved.
The Crown is asking for a sentence of six months, while the defence wants a conditional discharge.
Judge John Douglas will sentence Evans-Renaud on Jan. 20.
