Stratford is going forward with a project that would link the Charlottetown area by pedestrian and bike paths.

The town council accepted a proposal from the IBI Group to develop a plan called the Regional Active Transportation plan that will link Charlottetown, Stratford and Cornwall.

The plan will cost $80,000, two-thirds of which will be paid for by the federal government.

"Well it's to make sure that people who want to bike and walk and run can get where they want and need to go," said Robert Hughes, chief administrative officer in Stratford.

"Right now if you're living in Stratford or if you're living in Charlottetown or Cornwall you don't really think about 'Well, I'm going from one community to the other.' You just know you want to get from point A to point B."

The IBI Group will be surveying residents to find out where pedestrian and bike routes would be most effective.

The hope is that the project will be completed by the end of this year. All three communities and the Department of Transportation support the project.
