UPEI wants to add artistic flair to some of the concrete on campus.

The university has asked for people to submit ideas for artwork to cover the pillars on the main floor of Robertson Library.

"We're trying to improve the library environment," librarian Suzanne Jones told CBC News Thursday.

"There's a lot of concrete in the library, so we're trying to warm it up. And then the other thing is we're trying to support and encourage local artists, as well. So it's sort of a dual benefit."

Staff will choose a winner from the submissions. The commissioned artist will receive $4,000 for the work.

The closing date for submissions is September 30.
