Two construction companies are storing gravel on the waterfront while they work on provincial projects. (CBC News)Some residents along Water Street in Charlottetown say they want three giant gravel piles removed from the waterfront.
The residents say the piles are eyesores, they block the view, and they are dangerous because children and teenagers have been climbing on them.
"Somebody could possibly get hurt, fall off," said Cheryl Arsenault, who lives next door. "We don't need…children hanging around and playing in a spot that's obviously not designated for children to be playing at. It's not safe."
Two construction companies are keeping the gravel on the waterfront while they work on several provincial projects.
The Department of Transportation said although it hired the companies, it has nothing to do with where the materials are kept.
The harbour authority owns the land but has no plans to hire security.
The piles have been there for three weeks and will likely stay all summer.
