Limits on Sunday shopping on P.E.I. are costing Island business millions, says the Progressive Conservative Opposition, and Premier Robert Ghiz says he's willing to take another look.

MLA Mike Currie said in question period Tuesday the Christmas to Victoria Day ban means lost business for retailers. Currie said he's heard from numerous business owners who hate seeing revenue head off the Island on Sundays.

Currie asked Premier Robert Ghiz to introduce legislation this session that would allow Sunday shopping all year.

Ghiz said that won't happen.

The premier said governing is about finding a balance, and having Sunday shopping for just seven months of the year is a good compromise. He believes Sunday shopping just spreads out the same amount of spending from six days to seven.

Ghiz did say he would take another look. Specifically, provincial officials will look at sales tax brought in on a monthly basis, to see if there is more business done during the months in which there is Sunday shopping.

If there is a difference, Ghiz said he will revisit the Sunday shopping rules.
