Police are still investigating the cause of the accident. (CBC) One of the main entry points to Charlottetown was closed briefly midday Monday after a potato truck flipped at the approach to the Hillsborough Bridge.
Tonnes of potatoes were spilled on to the shoulder of the roadway when the truck went over. Charlottetown police said the driver was trying to make a turn at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Grafton Street at around 11:30 a.m.
"Traffic was tied up and had to be re-routed around the traffic accident for a short period of time, and then when the tow trucks came to upright the potato truck we had to shut off all traffic to the bridge," said deputy police chief Gary McGuigan.
"It wasn't just a simple matter of towing the vehicle. It had to be uprighted, causing the least amount of damage, and then towed away."
The driver was taken to hospital to be checked over. Police continue to investigate.
