The ex-girlfriend of a former P.E.I. Rocket hockey player testified Friday he was on a violent rampage the night he is accused of breaking her roommate's nose.
Chris Doyle entering court in Charlottetown Wednesday. (CBC) Chris Doyle, 20, who was a star player for the Rocket at the time, is on trial in provincial court in Charlottetown for assault causing bodily harm.
The young woman told the court Doyle was drunk, jealous and violent the night he showed up at her apartment in mid-September. She said she hadn't locked her door because it was close to midnight and she expected her roommate home soon.
She testified she heard a noise and found Doyle in her apartment. He was swearing and calling her names. She said he shoved past her, looking for a man in her bedroom.
Once there she told the court he threw books around, and threw a lamp at her. It missed but broke on the floor. Then she said he broke her laptop, took off his shirt put some blankets on the floor and passed out there.
Called friends
She texted her friends for help. When they got there she says Doyle woke up and got more angry, yelling and cursing at her friends.
He had "hurt her before," she said, and had "an explosive temper," so she was trying to calm him down.
She testified she managed to get him out of the apartment but he was punching the door and yelling. She didn't want to wake the neighbours so she decided to let him in. But as she opened the door he punched it. She said he hit it so hard, the door hit her roommate in the face, snapping her head back and breaking her nose.
The woman said Doyle seemed shocked to see blood streaming down the roommate's face and finally left.
Doyle currently plays for the Victoriaville Tigres, following a trade in December.
The trial continues.
