Charlottetown will again break its own record for cruise ship traffic this year.

In 2009, 41 international ships docked in Charlottetown. This season, the number is expected to climb to 43, if not higher.

And more ships are coming to the Charlottetown port earlier than usual.

An Italian ship will be the first to arrive, said Craig Sulis, manager of marketing and sales for the Department of Tourism.

"The Costa Atlantica is coming. April 21 and April 28 are the first scheduled departures. And that's the first time, to my knowledge, that we've had cruise ships here in April," said Sulis. "The Costa Atlantica was our biggest ship — it's around 2,800 passengers. So we should have roughly about 5,000 passengers by the end of April here in Charlottetown.
