Preliminary results from a survey of the Charlottetown transit system show there is some confusion over the schedule, according to the group conducting the survey.

Ann Wheatley, president of the P.E.I. Public Transit Coalition, said some responders found the bus schedule difficult to read. That's because some buses are numbered, and others are named after specific streets.

"Some of the bus routes — and I think this is fairly unusual for a bus system — the bus routes might say University Avenue and it might be bus number one, but they can differ," she said.

Wheatley said an independent transit commission should be set up to oversee improvements to the system. She believes the survey results will show there is a need for an Island-wide transit system.

In total, 47 riders were interviewed between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Dec. 1.

Wheatley said her organization's survey was not as critical as it could have been, because only current riders were interviewed.
