The 2011 East Coast Music Awards and the associated festival and conference will be held in Charlottetown.

The events in the Island capital will run March 24-27, the East Coast Music Association announced Wednesday.

Showcases and other events will be held at several downtown locations. The awards show will be held at the Charlottetown Civic Centre.

This year's ECMA show, to feature performances by Classified, Joel Plaskett, JP Cormier and the Stanfields, is to be held in Sydney, N.S., on March 7.

On Wednesday, ECMA organizers announced a new format for the awards, with no host. Instead, the entertainment will alternate between live music and award announcements.

Plaskett has a leading eight nominations for the ECMAs, and Classified, Caledonia, Amelia Curran and Chris Kirby each has multiple nods.

Other performers include Pascal Lejeune, Rose Cousins, Old Man Luedecke, Grass Mountain Hobos, Chrissy Crowley, Sons of Membertou, Colin Grant and Fiona MacGillivray.

A livestream broadcast by Bell Aliant, ECMA Live to the World, will make the awards ceremony available online in real time. The same website will stream highlights of the festival that airs in the days leading up to the awards.

CBC also plans several broadcasts around the festival, which celebrates the best music from Atlantic Canada:

  • Mainstreet with CBC Cape Breton's Wendy Bergfeldt will air live from the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion on March 5, 4-6 p.m. AT, on CBC Radio One.
  • Atlantic Airwaves with host Stephanie Domet will broadcast live March 6, from 5-6 p.m. on CBC Radio One.
  • Canada Live on CBC Radio 2 will recap musical highlights on March 8 at 7 p.m.
  • Concerts on Demand will podcast highlights of the festival.
  • CBC Radio 3's Craig Norris will broadcast a special show from Sydney featuring music from ECMA 2010.
