The PEI Rocket completed a big trade Tuesday, shaking up its roster and trading two of the hockey team's best players.

Chris Doyle and Joel Champagne — the team's leading scorer — were traded to the Victoriaville Tigres.

In exchange, the Rocket will receive two players — Jonathan Bonneau and Michael Ortika — and six draft picks.

Doyle, a Charlottetown-born forward, is facing assault charges after an incident involving a young woman this year.

Rocket president Serge Savard said the trade was strictly a hockey move, and had nothing to do with the charges.

“We are still going to have a competitive team this year because we got Jonathan Bonneau … and Michael Ortika, who is one of the best midget players in Quebec,” Savard said. “We’re very excited about Ortika, he’s going to be a dominant player in the league.”

The Rocket will also get first, third and fourth-round picks in the 2010 draft, and a second-round draft pick in 2011.

The team currently has a 20-14-1-3 record in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
