P.E.I. is moving to restrict the use and sale of many domestic lawn care pesticides.

Environment Minister Richard Brown introduced a bill Tuesday that would ban approximately 240 products.

In addition, the use of pesticides containing the active ingredient 2,4-D would be restricted to application on golf courses.

Brown said the intent is to stop the misuse and overuse of powerful lawn care chemicals.

The bill, which has been closely modelled after similar legislation in New Brunswick, is expected to go into effect April 1, 2010.
