Charlottetown police said a 53-year-old man driving this car hit two boys on Monday. (CBC)Two teenage boys from Colonel Gray High School in Charlottetown were struck by a car as they crossed the street in a crosswalk Monday.
The 15-year-old and 16-year-old were heading back to school over the lunch break when they were hit at Pond and Queen streets.
Both boys were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after they were identified by the principal and vice-principal at the scene, said Sgt. Tom Clow of the Charlottetown police.
"It appears one has been treated and released and the other possibly has a broken shoulder and is facing surgery," Clow said.
The two students likely had not suspected anything would happen to them, Clow said.
"They were in the right, crossing it the way they should be."
The driver of the car, a 53-year-old Charlottetown man, said he did not see the students in time to stop and he accepts responsibility, police said. The driver may be charged with failing to stop at a crosswalk.
The front end of the car was damaged.
