A 19-year-old man has been charged with assault following a stabbing in Charlottetown early Wednesday morning.

Police received a 911 call shortly before 3:30 from an apartment building on Prince Street, said Cpl. Dave Cheverie.

"Upon arrival, they came in contact with a 22-year-old male from Charlottetown who had suffered a laceration," he said.

Cheverie said the victim was taken to hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police arrested the 19-year-old shortly after the incident. He has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon and will appear in court at a later date.

Cheverie said police do not know whether the two men knew each other.
