Trustees of P.E.I.'s Eastern School District will vote May 29 on the controversial proposal to close 11 schools.

A four-month consultation process ended Tuesday evening. Hundreds of people attended eight public meetings held on the proposed closures. There were 102 presentations at those meetings. As well, the board received 326 emails, 369 letters, 103 phone messages and one fax.

Board Chairman Robert Clow said the trustees will take the next two and a half weeks to go through all the information in preparation for the vote, which will be conducted in public.

"The public will see how each of the trustees will vote on each of the recommendations," said Clow.

"It has been an open process since day one, and we heard from the public, we heard from [superintendent Sandy] MacDonald. The end resolutions will come now and the public will hear from the trustees."

The vote will take place at Morell High School at 7 p.m., Friday, May 29. After the vote, the recommendations will be forwarded to government.
