Charlottetown police have laid charges against a former program co-ordinator with AIDS PEI in connection with money missing from the organization.

Angela Michelle MacKinnon, 34, has been charged with theft and fraud in excess of $5,000. Sgt. Gary McGuigan told CBC News on Friday that the alleged offences occurred between April 2005 and March 2008.

MacKinnon worked as the program co-ordinator and served as an office administrator during a period when the AIDS PEI executive director position was vacant.

AIDS PEI officials said the investigation has taken some time to complete, and the case has no impact on the day-to-day operations of the organization.

MacKinnon will appear in court on May 7.
