After seeing the suffering in Gaza on news reports, Two P.E.I. women have started a fundraising campaign to help with the relief effort.

Georgette Kays and Mary Dow-Zakem have gathered donated items from parishioners at the Orthodox Christian Church in Charlottetown, and those items have gone into a basket for a raffle. Kays said the money will be sent to International Orthodox Christian charities, which is mobilizing relief.

"Those people need some help, and they don't have help from anybody right now," she said.

"The people can't go in, people can't go out, the water was shut off on them, no food supplies were going in there for a while .… We do have an Orthodox church there, and the money that we're going to raise is going to go direct right to the bishop, and he is going to use it there for the people who need the help."

Kays said the money will be used for food, clothing and other supplies. Tickets for the basket are being sold at the Charlottetown Farmers Market.
