While Charlottetown city council wrestles with traffic tie-ups from drive-thrus, the Second Cup is advertising it has a new drive-thru franchise available, which could potentially add to the problem.

A spokesperson for Second Cup told CBC News Wednesday the company was contacted by a landlord with property on University Ave., but planning for the franchise is only in the preliminary stages.

There have been calls from some members of city council to put a moratorium on new drive-thrus, unless the business can prove they won't create traffic problems. The chair of the police committee, Coun. Rob Lantz, doesn't believe a moratorium is necessary.

City officials said the Second Cup hasn't applied for a business licence or building permit. No one with the coffee chain would say where exactly a new franchise might be located.
