Representatives from all three levels of government met at Charlottetown city hall Tuesday to announce a half dozen jointly funded infrastructure projects for the city.
Many of the projects announced are already under way. The biggest chunk of money goes to the privately run Murphy's Community Centre: $700,000 to make it more accessible for people in wheelchairs by, among other things, adding elevators and making changes to the entrance.
Mayor Clifford Lee was particularly pleased to announce $400,000 for a new roof on the 18-year-old Civic Centre.
"This infrastructure improvement will enable us to continue to use this venue as a key player in our ongoing commitment to excel as an events destination and to serve the sports and cultural needs of our citizens," said Lee.
Two soccer complexes are also receiving funding. Over $2 million will go to improving sidewalks and sewers.
The total funding for the projects, shared equally by the three levels of government, is just under $4 million.
