- Cornwall Mayor Patrick MacFadyen on the transit bus experiment (Runs: 3:58)

Cornwall will run an experiment with an express transit bus to Charlottetown this summer.
Cornwall has been looking at joining the Charlottetown transit system since it launched in October 2005. Council voted to run the experiment Wednesday night.
This summer offers a good opportunity to try bus service, because construction on the North River Causeway, Cornwall's connection to the capital, has reduced it to two lanes. It is hoped the 45-passenger bus will help ease traffic.
Mayor Patrick MacFadyen said if things go well, this could be the beginning of a more permanent transit system.
"It is a baby step, and it's a good little indicator to see just how much interest there is in transit," said MacFadyen.
"If we have a lineup of people wanting to take the bus, and the buses are full, then that would be a good indication that that's something we should look at."
The bus service will begin on June 2 and run twice a day. A second bus may be added if there is a demand. The cost will be about $3 each way, and weekly bus passes will be available as early as next week.
