Higher production costs have prompted the Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission to raise the price of beer.
The price jump, announced in a news release Monday, comes at the request of brewers, who are dealing with higher costs for malt, glass, water, fuel and electricity.
The new retail price for domestic beer will be $20.25 a dozen, up 54 cents, effective May 1. Included in the retail price is the $1.20 bottle deposit.
The last beer retail price increase was in September, and the commission notes beer prices on the Island are still the lowest in Atlantic Canada.
