It was another record-breaking year for Charlottetown Airport in 2007.
Traffic at the airport, with 253,000 passengers, was up more than 12 per cent over 2006. Traffic in December was up 10 per cent over December 2006, the seventh consecutive month of double-digit growth.
"We're not sure realistically if we can keep on growing at this rate every year," airport CEO Doug Newson told CBC News Monday.
"The last two years we've seen 34 per cent increase in traffic at the airport, which is certainly fantastic. We're hopingĀ [in 2008] that we'll see some moderate growth with some additional services."
New flights to new destinations have been a major factor in the airport's growth. This summer, Delta Airlines began flying direct from Boston. Sunwing Airlines flew to the Dominican Republic last summer.
Newson said the airport is confident that, as long as the airlines add capacity at a reasonable rate, it can be successful at helping them fill the aircraft.
