There are rumours The Eagles may be P.E.I.'s next big concert, but where exactly they might land has become an open question.

Promoter David Carver, who brought the Black Eyed Peas in 2006 and Aerosmith in 2007, isn't saying who might be coming next summer, and questions abound about where the concert might be. The first two concerts were held in Charlottetown, but Summerside has stepped in to compete for the 2008 concert, and Charlottetown Coun. Rob Lantz said the rival city's offer is very good.

"It sounded like a great package they're offering," Lantz told CBC News Monday, saying he learned of the rival bid during a phone call with Carver last week.

"We said we understand you're a businessman and that's a great offer, and we can't compete with it. We've made our best offer, and really that's the best we can do."

Lantz said Charlottetown is prepared to offer the same terms that brought Aerosmith to town last summer: $25,000 to cover overtime for police and fire protection. He said he was told Summerside's offer was four or five times that. Officials in Summerside won't confirm they've made a pitch to Carver.

Carver said Monday he is considering both Island cities. He also said Moncton, N.B., and Halifax are possibilities, but he suggested sentiment could play a role in his decision.

"I guess I've always felt that I've been a bit of an underdog in taking on big national concert producers," he said, "and P.E.I. is the underdog compared to Moncton and Halifax. And I guess Summerside, you could argue, is the underdog in P.E.I."

Carver said he hopes to have a venue nailed down within the next few weeks and he plans to make an official announcement early in the new year.
