Ottawa's $64-million anti-drug strategy couldn't have come at a better time, says P.E.I.'s health minister.

Two-thirds of the federal money announced last week will go to addiction prevention and treatment for people hooked on drugs. Health Minister Doug Currie told CBC News Wednesday that's the portion of the funding the island hopes to tap into.

"What that looks like to the province of Prince Edward Island, I don't have an exact break down, but you know it's an initiative that we very much welcome," said Currie.

"We will be aggressively at the table looking for our provincial share."

In particular, the money would be used to assist the province with a new strategy for youth addictions, said Currie.

Currie expects a report on youth addictions to be tabled in the legislature by the spring sitting, and by that time he'll know how much money the province can expect from Ottawa.
