Lt.-Gov. Barbara Hagerman has announced this year's recipients of the Order of Prince Edward Island.

They are William "Bill" MacLean of Wilmot Valley, Ray Murphy of Stratford and Helen Robbins of Montague.

Bill Maclean is a longtime community volunteer and founder of the International Children's Memorial Place, a park near Kinkora that opened in 2003.

Ray Murphy is a successful businessman and pharmacist who has also volunteered for and supported numerous Island charities. Murphy recently made the news when he purchased Charlottetown's Basilica Recreation Centre. It is now the Murphy Recreation Centre, and in the process of being updated as a community health facility.

Helen Robbins is a teacher, mother and community volunteer and activist. She is particularly active in the curling community.

The Order of Prince Edward Island recognizes Islanders who have shown excellence or outstanding leadership in their community or profession. The names of deserving Islanders are put forward through a public nomination process. The recipients, three every year, are chosen by a nine-member advisory council.
