Gas prices on Prince Edward Island will rise by 2.7 cents a litre Tuesday, but the prices of diesel and furnace oil are going down.

The gasoline increase brings the price of regular unleaded self-serve fuel at P.E.I. pumps to between $1.14.2 to $1.15.8 per litre.

By contrast, diesel will decrease by 2.6 cents a litre, and furnace oil will drop by 1.3 cents a litre.

The Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission said the increase in gasoline prices is due to unplanned production outages, strong consumer demand, and gasoline stocks being at the lowest level in 16 years.

The new prices come into effect after midnight.
