The addition of three officers to crack down on the illegal drug trade on P.E.I. is paying off, say the RCMP.
Police have made four major drug busts in the past week, seizing cocaine, marijuana, hash, ecstasy and contraband cigarettes.
The most recent bust happened Wednesday in St. Nicholas, just west of Summerside. The RCMP, assisted by Summerside Police, seized 42 marijuana plants and more than 200 grams of marijuana.
"Time is going to catch up to you after a while," RCMP Sgt. Jamie George warned Island drug dealers.
"We're actively pursuing leads and any intelligence that we gather to try and get these drugs off the street. We're seeing an increase in other types of drugs as well, and the seizure of other types of drugs — cocaine, crack, some methamphetamine, and certainly a lot of prescription medication that the members are taking off the road."
A 48-year-old man is facing charges in connection with Wednesday's bust.
The RCMP raided two homes in Summerside on Sunday, seizing cocaine, marijuana products and contraband cigarettes. A 48-year-old Summerside man and a 27-year-old Summerside woman are facing charges.
