A man who lives on a dark country road near Summerside, P.E.I., got sick of cleaning up garbage dumped along the roadside — so he posted a sign listing the litterers' names.

'It's not realistic to expect people to be picking up other people's garbage.'— Chris Wall

Chris Wall of Lower New Annan said he has had to pick up garbage bags along the road for years. He complained to the provincial Environment Department, but said he didn't get any satisfaction.

Last week, Wall looked through the garbage and found some names on bills. With the help of neighbours, he put up signs more than a metre high outing the culprits.

"There's a few perpetrators around here that think, because we're out in the country a little bit you don't need to sort your garbage, you can just put it in a bag and fire it out along a dark stretch of road," Wall told CBC News on Friday.

"It's not realistic to expect people to be picking up other people's garbage when everybody is supplied with a waste watch bin in the first place."

Wall said he will leave the signs up until the littering stops.

The CBC has not been able to reach the Environment Department or the littering neighbours for comment.
