The vehicle was heading northbound on Queen Street when the teen was hit, said Deputy Chief Richard Collins.
"He has been taken to the QEH [Queen Elizabeth Hospital] for treatment for what's being described as serious injury at this point in time," said Collins. "We have an accident reconstructionist and analyst on site."
The Ford Focus station wagon that struck the youth was driven by an adult male, said police. There is a crosswalk at the intersection, but police are still trying to determine whether the youth had used it.
Collins said it was too early to determine whether any charges will be laid.
The youth's family has been notified.
