Charlottetown Airport marked passenger number 212,492 Monday morning, breaking a yearly record that has stood since 1989.
'We're the fastest-growing airport in Atlantic Canada.'— Mike Campbell
Airport CEO Mike Campbell credits a number of large events and conferences with the numbers for this year.
"We've exceeded the traffic with still another month to go, and, look, it's really exciting news. We're the fastest-growing airport in Atlantic Canada and the fourth fastest growing airport in all of Canada," said Campbell.
Charlottetown Airport will add a new section between the terminal and the tower next year.

"The other three airports are all out west."
Campbell said improvements in service have also made a contribution to the record-setting year.
"It's the options that people have," he said.
"We had four airlines operating through Charlottetown: Air Canada, Westjet, Sunwing and Northwest. And all of them contributed to the numbers."
Growth expected to continue
The 1989 record was set with the help of a national scouting jamboree in July.
Campbell is optimistic the airport will reach 225,000 passengers by the end of the year, and the quarter million mark in 2007, helped by new, direct flights to the Dominican Republic beginning in March.
Renovations will begin in the new year to expand the Charlottetown Airport to receive international flights. The expansion will be completed in June 2007.
