Transportation Minister Gail Shea says mandatory training will be part of new legislation on the use of all-terrain vehicles on P.E.I.

Shea didn't wait for a report by a committee studying ATV use to be completed to make the announcement.

She said mandatory training seems to be acceptable to ATV users, and is being called for by the general public.

"We will look at whether we will ask everybody or new drivers," she said Thursday. "We'll be looking at the whole gamut of things, such as a special licence for ATVs."

Shea says the committee will make its recommendations in time for the fall sitting of the legislature.
