A 21-year-old West Prince man has been charged in connection with a case in May where a 10-month-old girl was allegedly placed in a freezer.
RCMP began their investigation after they received a complaint on May 15. Derrick Leigh Hardy has been charged with one count of abandoning a child and one count of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.
RCMP Sgt. Richard Thibault acknowledged the charges have been a long time coming, and called the investigation complex.

"There's medical reports, medical practitioners and anyone who may have come into contact with that child, and other people who may have information to assist in the investigation, and that causes delays," said Thibault.
Thibault couldn't comment on any injuries to the child, saying that was part of the evidence that would be presented in court.
Thibault said he'd like to be able to describe this incident as unusual, but police worry that the majority of cases of child abuse on the Island go unreported.
"This is a very difficult matter for a lot of parents, for people to report," he said.
"There are a number of them being reported to the police but we know there is a larger percentage that are not."
Hardy has been released on the promise to appear in court Sept. 13.
