A number of changes to Charlottetown transit routes and schedules will make commuting across the city easier.

Since the launch of Charlottetown Transit two-and-a-half months ago, it's been easy for riders to travel downtown on the north-south routes.

But it was a different story for commuters who wanted to travel east and west across the city. The only transfer point where riders could switch trolleys was Confederation Centre.

On Wednesday a new hub opened at Charlottetown Mall where all four trolley lines converge.

Mike Cassidy, a co-owner of Charlottetown Transit, says the new transfer point will make east-west travel a lot easier.

"It has transfers north-south, up and down, you have transfers east-west, or across our city," he explained. "We never had that in our first launch, so we're very excited."

Charlottetown Transit is also introducing express runs in the morning and afternoon on its University Avenue route. Cassidy says on these runs, the trolleys will spend less time at each stop.

"We're trying to provide that quick efficient service, especially for the 7:30 a.m. run to get people downtown to work and making sure at 4:05 p.m. that we can get the worker back home," Cassidy said.

Charlottetown Transit hopes to see the service expand to six or seven trolleys next year.
