Dump opponents jump into campaign

Hazelbrook residents opposed to a demolition dump are joining the election's sign campaign.
"Dump the Dumpers" and "You failed on the Dump, why vote for you?" have joined the more traditional signs with party logos along the highways of District 8, Tracadie-Fort Augustus.
Members of the community have been fighting the Binns government for more than a year over the issue. Hazelbrook residents are worried about environmental contamination from the construction and demolition site in their area.
They've taken their battle with the government over the permit for the site to the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission, to P.E.I.'s Supreme Court, and now they're taking it to the electorate.
"I think we are trying to remind them that this issue has not been settled to the satisfaction of this community," says local resident Kelly Mullally. "It very much is an election issue for the residents of Hazelbrook."
Hazelbrook is at the edge of District 6, Belfast-Pownal Bay, and the issue could spill into that riding as well.
