The man hoping to be the next prime minister is helping the man who wants to be the next premier.

Paul Martin is spending part of Friday in the province campaigning with Liberal Leader Robert Ghiz.

It comes one day after Ghiz outlined his plan for better relations with the federal government.

Ghiz says if he is elected he'll submit a detailed plan outlining how much money the province needs, and what it will be spent on.

He says it is exactly what Paul Martin wants from the provinces if he is the next prime minister.

"We've seen over the last number of years where governments here on Prince Edward Island have gone to Ottawa and just demanded more money," says Ghiz.

The Liberal leader says Martin is already telling provincial leaders how he would dole out federal dollars.

"We've seen now through comments and speeches where we've heard Paul Martin speak, that he's not into quick fixes, he's looking for a long term plan. That's the approach we're going to take."

Ghiz, who most recently worked for Prime Minister Jean Chretien, says has a good relationship with Martin. He says that will only help the Island.

"I've known him for a long time. We have have the same values. So we're looking forward to opening up the dialogue, and I'm obviously going to talk to him about our Island plan."

Martin is holding a $1,500 a plate fundraising breakfast to start the day, and then will canvass with Ghiz in downtown Charlottetown.
