Friday is the deadline for nominations for the September 29 election. There are now 13 official NDP candidates, and Robichaud says five or six more will be announced shortly.

Robichaud is aware the NDP has a hard campaign ahead, and admits it has started out slowly.

"We know that we have to increase our momentum, and we want to peak at the right time, and it's best to peak towards the end than at the beginning," he says. "We realize that we can't compete dollar for dollar, and sign for sign, and fancy car for fancy car - mine isn't decorated. But we knew that going in, and we knew that our strength is on policy and that our strength is being on the right side of the issues."

While confessing to a slow start, Robichaud points out that the NDP was the first party to release its entire platform. He says they are now concentrating on going door to door, and talking to voters.

The New Democrats are expected to release their health care policy on Wednesday.
