A controversial Liberal nomination has been settled, the party chose Michelle Johnston to run in the Murray River-Gaspereaux district after the original candidate decided not to let his name stand.

Andy Clarey, who lost the nomination for the second time in as many weeks, said the incident has hurt his taste for politics.

Clarey ran for the Liberals in the last provincial election in the riding held by Premier Pat Binns.

He took thirty per cent of the vote, and figured the party would want him to run again.

During the first nomination meeting in the district, he lost to Marvan MacLeod who was nominated from the floor. When Clarey went to the media with his suspicions the Liberals were trying to get rid of him, MacLeod withdrew from the election.

Clarey delivered a speech critical of the way he had been treated during the second nomination meeting, and then lost to Johnston by a few votes.

"I had a job to get a nominator too, I phoned different people and everybody I phoned they couldn't do it for me. I was wondering what was going on," Clarey said on Monday. "They didn't want me to go but they didn't have the guts to come out and tell me. I really don't think that game is for me when I watch everything unfold."

Clarey says he feels hurt that people he though were friends would turn on him.
