A family in Summerside has taken a creative approach to announcing they are expecting a fourth child: shooting home movies inspired by Star Wars and The Godfather, starring their three children.
"We announced to them that we were going to have a new baby, so I thought, 'What would be really cool is to do a Star Wars movie for the kids,'" said father Jeremy Rowley.
He started with a simpler scene, inspired by The Godfather.
After the kids aced their new roles, he embarked on a seven-minute movie set on "an island kind of far away."
Rowley said his cast also provided editorial guidance.
"Of course my kids the whole time they were telling me I was wrong. They said, 'You need to have this in it and this in it because of this episode,'" he said.
Daughter, Jillian, 8, played Queen Amidala. Five-year-old Evan played Obi Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker. The youngest, four-year-old Edison, was cast as both Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader.
Rowley's wife Leslie did the costumes and make-up, and made light sabers out of cardboard tubes from wrapping paper.
The Rowleys moved to the Island last summer, and most of their family is in the U.S. Rowley said they were thrilled to learn of the pregnancy — and to see the kids having fun on camera.
"This is the longest — or even the furthest — that they've ever been away from grandchildren," he said.
"We've Skyped a couple of times while we've been here, but of course it's not the same as having them right there with them."
As for the kids, Rowley said they are excited to welcome their new sibling.
"I did some interviews — almost like a casting interview — for each one of them," he said.
"The daughter, of course, she's like, 'I want to have a girl, because I'm tired of these boys.' The boys are like, 'We just need to have another boy.' They're really excited."
