A fire in Springvale destroyed a three-car garage Monday.
RCMP blocked the area on Crabbe Road for almost three hours, while firefighters from North River and two other departments fought the flames.
It proved to be a tricky battle, as there were several explosives inside the garage, said Fire Chief Kirby Wakelin.
"There was a lot of accelerants in it. There was propane, acetylene torches and fuel in vehicles and so I didn't take any chances on it. My deputy chief actually called in another department and I called in a third one to help with the battle," said Wakelin.
One of the propane tanks did explode, Wakelin said. But the fire was put out and the nearby home was not damaged.
Fire officials said the garage, however, will need to be demolished.
